Be Cool Scooby Doo Looks Like Family Guy

Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! (TV Series 2015–2018) Poster

vii /10

Some aspects need more work, but overall swell at all

Despite being a lifelong fan of Scooby Doo and who loves nigh of the shows and films, there was some initial intrepidation on my part in watching Be Cool, Scooby Doo! This is mostly downward to the animation style, which gave me quite a bad shock when I first heard of the series and that it was made out to await rather gimmicky.

But equally someone who has learnt not to judge something by its visual style or how it'due south advertised, equally a fan of the franchise I watched Be Cool, Scooby Doo! anyway, and despite some big flaws it'south great at all. In fact, information technology's at its best very entertaining and pretty absurd.

The biggest personal gripe with Be Cool, Scooby Doo! is some of the animation. Information technology was one of the biggest turn off points when kickoff advertised, and while information technology is not terrible as an overall whole this viewer has still not completely warmed to it. As said, information technology'southward not terrible, and information technology perfectly suits the adjacent universe the series is set in. The backgrounds are very detailed and mostly well drawn, having a unique style while reminding one of both quondam and new Scooby Doo, the colours can be moodily atmospheric and vibrantly lively and there is some clever animation in the reveals. At the same time, the drawing has had some instances where it could have been much smoother, rather than the Seth-Macfarlane-on-a-very-low-budget sort of look information technology tin adopt and there are times like in the early episodes where it's a piffling lifeless and garish colours-wise. It is in the often hideous grapheme designs where the animation particularly disappoints, of all the Scooby Doo incarnations only those for Shaggy and Scooby Doo Become a Clue'south (a show one prefers to forget exists) are worse, only not in a long fourth dimension have the gang looked this weird, ugly, blocky, off-model and unfinished, Fred is particularly bad on all counts and Scooby as well looks creepy (similar the eyes).

While the characters are not badly written at all on the whole, on occasion graphic symbol development could take been better. No problem can be institute with Scooby and Shaggy, they are still hilarious, true to character and immensely likable and their friendship (e'er such a large part of the franchise'due south appeal) still charms and affects. Also appreciated what the show did with Daphne, while she is a little dumbed down at times it was refreshing to encounter her with more backbone, more than resourcefulness and being quirkier than usual and the centre of the group rather than the dryad in distress effigy. While the testify does become the basic roles in the group of Velma and Fred correct- Velma being the brains and Fred the leader- in that location were sometimes some reservations about how they were written, information technology is made too blatantly too much how smart Velma is (existence constantly reminded of it) and it does irritate quickly, for someone who's found Velma less likable over the years this lack of likability was amplified rather than rectified it seemed. And while not as much equally in A Pup Named Scooby Doo, Fred does come beyond every bit too much of an idiot and not every bit competent a leader as seen before.

Lastly while the stories and writing are mostly very well done, i does have to admit that even for Scooby Doo the show does go very predictable, in that oft suspects take been too few and that when it comes to the reveals the perpetrator at times has either been revealed too early or the viewer thinks halfway through that it can't exist anybody else.

Nonetheless, every bit said the animation does have its great things, and the music is both atmospheric and bang-up complete with an infectiously catchy theme tune. Exist Cool, Scooby Doo! does score highly in the writing section, while it can be silly (very like the archetype shows) it is actually endearingly so and in that location are many express mirth-out-loud-funny, at its best hilarious, moments (mostly with Shaggy and Scooby), thanks to some well-judged efficient pacing and remarkably fresh-sounding dialogue that does besides stick to the spirit of the archetype Scooby Doo sense of humour and brings a large smiling to 1'due south face.

Be Cool, Scooby Doo's story lines may not be perfectly executed, only they are nonetheless suspensefully diverting, a lot of fun and never get besides simplistic or complicated. They have a wonderful calorie-free-hearted free energy, in a show that wisely is very humour-oriented (a refreshing modify from the darkness of Mystery Incorporated) while too having enough mystery and suspense in its atmosphere to continue the stories engaging.

Regarding the characters, while in that location were some bug with Velma and Fred, the gang have a great, hugely enjoyable chemistry and are generally true to character (their basic roles in the group have certainly not changed). The supporting characters are a little sketchily developed just are hardly liabilities, and the villains are colourful, scary and fun. That they were similar previous Scooby Doo villains (i.e Elias Kingston) but updated was a dainty idea and came over very affectionately. The voice acting, with the only notable change beingness with Velma (who is still very credibly voiced), is very well done, particularly from Matthew Lillard, who has proved himself since taking over the character of Shaggy a more than worthy replacement for the tardily Casey Kasem. One has to adore the fact that Frank Welker is still voicing Fred, a function he has done since the franchise first began and he's yet to put a pes wrong.

Overall, needs some tweaking but much ameliorate than expected. Information technology is nowhere near the worst Scooby incarnation (or even one of them) and is by far one of the meliorate 'new' shows airing on Boomerang at the moment. half-dozen.5-seven/10 Bethany Cox

Decent show, apart from one huge flaw

The affair is, the fans own Scooby Doo at present. Anybody has a favourite incarnation, a favourite vocalisation role player, or a favourite style of animation the prove is done in. The powers that exist can't please everyone.

I like bits of this show. I think the story lines accept been proficient, and in that location's been simply enough in-jokes to what has gone earlier. I tin't say I'chiliad a fan of the new animation manner, In comparison to 'What'due south new Scooby Doo?' it seems to non-expert.

I miss Mindy Cohn as Velma, because I grew upward with her in the role, but Matthew Lillard is however a great Shaggy.

What I really dislike though is what they've done with Daphne. That alone put me off this evidence.

An Honest Review

I but can't get into it. For starters it's the animation. This iteration of Scooby Doo doesn't wait or experience at all similar Scooby Doo. It looks more like, well, like Teen Titans. You know...cheap bucking for comical in an effort to cover it up.

Not that Scooby Doo is historically beautifully animated, it is Hanna-Barbara after all, but information technology at to the lowest degree always had atmosphere. It ever looked chilling.

A Pup Named Scooby Doo looked darker than this.

As a whole, it is waaay to light hearted for Scooby Doo. It looks as well bright and vibrant, likewise much like the Powder Puff Girls and that is exactly how the story comes across as well.

It'due south a cheapened dumbed down Scooby Doo.

An Honest Review

No, this is Non Scooby-Doo.

Fred isn't really Fred, Velma isn't Velma, Shaggy and Scooby are hardly the cowards with the abysmal stomachs they used to be, Daphne is not Daphne...

...And at that place aren't any real mysteries.

Yous're watching another drawing about a grouping of kids that just accept fun, face no real threats, have cipher really scary happen to them, the series sucks.

It feel like EVERY other drawing, directly downwards to animation that makes Hanna-Barbara look like Michelangelo.

The changes are the main reason I hate remakes and reboots. It's like people sat down and said "Permit'south make Scooby-Doo just make it naught like Scooby-Doo."

Unfairly maligned addition to the franchise that somehow has worse aggregate scores than both the Scrappy-Doo incarnations. Really? I mean, REALLLY!?

The Scooby-Doo gang consisting of determined leader Fred (Frank Welker), brains of the grouping Velma (Kate Micucci), airheaded and eccentric Daphne (Grayness DeLisle), and gluttonous practiced-natured cowards Shaggy (Matthew Lillard) and their canis familiaris Scooby-Doo (Frank Welker) travel in the Mystery Car in search of adventure simply routinely stumble across supernatural happenings whose explanations are anything but.

Announced in June 2014 roughly a year after the conclusion of Scooby-Doo: Mystery Incorporated, the announcement of the series and redesigns of the characters was met with fan ire. The fact that Be Cool Scooby-Doo was following the footsteps of the all-time reviewed incarnation of the franchise since the initial direct-to-video films of the 90s was certainly an uphill battle for the show, and its hope of going for a more than comedic tone in contrast to the foreboding serialization of Mystery Incorporated was certainly an adjustment. But with that said the fan backlash has gone completely off the deep terminate equally the show somehow has a worse rating than both The Scooby-Doo and Scrappy Show and The New Scooby-Doo and Scrappy show.....This is why I'm losing faith in aggregate review sites, because of knee wiggle fan reactions distorting reliable reflections of quality. While the bear witness is not on the same level as Mystery Incorporated, it's not trying to be and it'due south more in line with something like What's New Scooby-Doo where information technology takes the original formula from the 1969 series and plays itself for sort of a winking comedy without going into total on parody.

A big distinguishing factor for the evidence is in the behind the scenes influence of producer Zac Moncrief a noted producer and director who has worked on everything from Family Guy and Brickleberry to endearing classics like Phineas and Ferb and you can definitely tell that from the fine art way. While you can definitely see shades of Seth MacFarlane's Fuzzy Door blitheness manner in the production, I'd say the show falls more in line with something like Phineas and Ferb or Milo Murphy'southward Constabulary where it has simplistic designs like in Family Guy or Brickleberry only unlike those two shows the simplicity is utilized for a lot of freedom of movement and energy on screen. On occasion the evidence does dip into some "anti-humour" sequences such as stuttering for an overly long time or being forced to motility ludicrously tiresome simply it isn't driveling past the betoken of tolerance equally seen in Family Guy or Fatigued Together so it'south still able to get a laugh.

The characters are nonetheless on point with Shaggy and Scooby still lovable goofball cowards, Fred's still the no nonsense leader with an excessive attachment to his Mystery Machine, the just one who has whatever real deviation is Daphne who's still accident prone merely now has a bizarre running gag of adopting a different quirk every episode. I episode show'southward here sporting a collection of puppets modeled after her friends, one episode shows her as narrating the gang's adventures, and another shows her having a feud of no existent origins with all of Dolphin kind that is never explained, yeah it'southward a pretty weird route to take with the graphic symbol simply the bizarre antics done with Daphne are so outlandish and eyebrow raising it'southward all but guaranteed to get a laugh from the sheer amount of "What?" on brandish accompanied by funny reactions from the rest of the cast particularly Fred.

Be Cool Scooby-Doo doesn't reach the heights of Mystery Incorporated or the start three 90s straight-to-video movies, but it is an enjoyable entry in the franchise that fits well within the visitor entries such as What's New Scooby-Doo. I recollect I enjoyed Be Absurd about on the aforementioned level as What'south New just because of how daring it was in shaking up the design works and running with its baroque sense of humor even if information technology doesn't always land. However this bear witness is in no manner shape or form worse than The Scooby-Doo and Scrappy Show or The New Scooby-Doo and Scrappy show, if you gave this evidence a worse rating than EITHER of those you desperately need to readjust your definition of quality.

The worst animation (on characters) of all time.

The stories are basically fine, but the animation is the worst. The characters are and so ugly. Information technology's like Frankenstein version of Scooby Doo. It's so crappy. If the characters are not like Frankensteins, well, I would have given 10 stars.

Another strong entry in the register of the great Dane's crime fighting career

Warning: Spoilers

Hanna-Barbera brings united states of america the latest incarnation of the crime-solving canine and his partners in sleuthing with "Exist Cool, Scooby-Doo" The cast is made up of regulars Frank Welker (Scooby-Doo and Fred Rogers), Matthew Lillard (Shaggy), and Grayness Griffin (Daphne Blake) being joined by newcomer Kate Micucci ("Scrubs," "The Big Bang Theory") every bit Velma Dinkley.

The Scooby gang is back with a modernistic comedic twist on the beloved classic. With high school over and one concluding summertime to live it up, the gang hits the route in the Mystery Auto, chasing fun and take chances in "Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!" But monsters and mayhem go along getting in the way.

I gave my nine-year-sometime son, Ephraim the gamble to review the series. He shared his cess with me after rampage-watching his favorite episodes again.

"'Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!' is an heady adventure with the gang in 13 new spooky episodes. My favorites are 'Trading Chases' with the spirit of Sobek, 'Mystery 101' starring the ghost of Kingsley, 'Screama Donna' with the ghost of Prima Donna, and 'Kitchen Frightmare' featuring the Yeti. What I like about this evidence is Shaggy and Scooby's hunger later on eating the largest belfry of food and Daphne's strange objects for each mystery. Hop into the van cause there'south a mystery to solve!"

A completely unlike animation manner than what we've seen before is utilized for "Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!" This really comes as no surprise, since they've been trying to play with the look of each bear witness since "Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get a Inkling!" The look takes a bit of getting used to, only works in the end.

"Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!" is some other strong entry in the annals of the smashing Dane's crime fighting career. I still prefer the classic look of "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?" And "What's New, Scooby-Doo?" However, the humor and tales told outweigh any issues I have with the way the characters and their environs announced.

Funny!!

This is by far my favorite Scooby-Doo show. It is really funny. Equally an developed, I found the jokes to exist surprisingly clever, like Phineas and Ferb level.

The main cast has been tweaked a little, but I didn't mind at all. They changed Daphne from a straight man to an eccentric/costless-spirit rich daughter who has a new weird hobby, similar puppets or miming, every story, and she is one of the best parts. Other highlights include Scooby being a bit quick-tongued and Freddie existence semi-driven nuts past everybody's eccentricities.

This doesn't have a existent over-reaching plot or drama like the last evidence, merely it really has a fairly effective finale.

People have complained about the simplified Brickleberry-esque graphic symbol design. To exist honest they're non my first choice, merely I tin't say the design is bad past itself, and I got used to information technology. Although one-act-oriented, there are some monster designs in this that are pretty constructive-looking.

Although Kate Micucci makes a good Velma, I'yard disappointed that the showrunners replaced Mindy Cohn, who'd washed her for a while, just because they wanted a modify.

Sadly, this simply lasted two seasons, but they were both total seasons and information technology was fun while it lasted.

One of the stronger Scooby Doo shows, and easily the funniest

Like many others, I was hesitant to lookout Be Cool due to the art way, but quickly realized how much of a non-issue it becomes when you get into the cleverness of the show. Be Absurd gives every bit much depth to all 5 characters as we've seen in any other show - none are reductive tropes, all are fully fleshed out, interesting people. Daphne is the clearest case of this, with her positivity and zany $.25 she has each episode. Shaggy is fantastic, shown as a much smarter and more clever guy than before, perhaps my favorite iteration of Shaggy still. Velma has nice backstory, and Scooby talks more here than in any previous evidence I'd say. At its eye, and specially in its best episodes, it is Fred who brings the show together. The People Vs Fred Jones, Some Fred Time, and the 2 part ending to the prove with Professor Huh are amazing episodes, and each centers on a fascinating examination of Fred'south psychology. He is the strength that drives the gang towards every new mystery, and is the one who is nearly invested in the gang for what they do. Daphne cares more than almost the people, Velma cares more well-nigh the outcome, just Fred loves the gang for what it represents. The terminal episode with Professor Huh was a fascinating turning on its caput of Fred'due south father from Mystery Incorporated. In MI, his male parent seemed like he cared but ended up not being so expert after all (his human relationship with Fred is also not what it appears, simply I'll avoid spoilers). Here, his male parent is a criminal and the set up makes us call back it's a similar story, where he saw his father'southward mistakes and solved mysteries every bit a way to not exist similar him and terminate people like him. The episode progression is masterfully done, and the manner it ties upward a few past threads is brilliant. Information technology'due south always enjoyable and funny, and at its best it is a fantastic bear witness. What holds me back from putting it in tier 1 with MI, SDWAY, and WNSD is that aside from a handful of inspired episodes, many did feel overly formulaic. Even then, the show is self-aware enough to poke fun at how they always do the aforementioned matter, such equally Shaggy bemoaning the way they get followed in splitting up. The mysteries were a chip hit or miss, with some great clever solutions but also some that were pretty random and had few clues or interesting mystery elements. In nigh every episode, I could proper name the infinitesimal by infinitesimal progression of the prove and exist about right. The great, comedic writing and deeper characters are enough for me to requite it a great rating of an viii, and I never finished an episode thinking there was nothing interesting in it, but a few episodes do stand out as truly brilliant. Particularly for anyone who likes Scooby Doo this is an absolute treat equally the clever jokes playing off of celebrated character and episode tropes are frequent and consistently well done, and information technology really does have some of the best moments in each of the 5 characters' histories. Highly recommended, Be Absurd has far more than depth than information technology may seem at first glance.

A huge disgrace to the Scooby Doo franchise

Whoever thought up Be Cool Scooby Doo needs to exist hunted down and shot. It is suppose to exist a more than comedic take on the original series, but it is very insulting and dull. The "heroes" are stupid and weak. The villains are worst. The plot is clichéd, the art is simple, and there is nothing redeeming about it. This is like most mean spirited comedy shows: predictable, lackluster, and annoying. Fifty-fifty though it is meant for a young audience, not many people will enjoy this slapped together piece of crud. I am glad it'due south short lived. It is one of the worst animated reboot series ever made period.

Art isn't my favourite, merely the writing is top-tier!

I've been a fan of Scooby-Doo since the start series aired back in 1969. Some versions have been great, some very adept, and - sadly - one or two have been poor (I prefer the gang together - and no Scrappy). I enjoyed the Mystery Inc. series, and when I saw trailers for Be Cool, Scooby Doo I thought the artwork had really dropped . Just the way, withal far from beingness my favourite, has grown on me. The phonation talent is faultless, and the writing is OUTSTANDING. Some very, very funny (not to mention, clever) stuff. This writing combined with the Mystery Inc. character designs would be a perfect 10! As it is, Be Absurd, Scooby-Doo nonetheless gets a well-deserved ix. Fantastic.

I'm Disappointed

I expected a continuation of the nighttime, gritty, best version (yep best) of Scooby Doo in Mystery Inc. Nevertheless Be Cool, Scooby Doo takes Scooby Doo dorsum earlier teen romance and actual monsters. Which isn't necessarily bad simply the animation is just straight up rubbish why are cartoonists devolving cartoons similar what? Mystery Inc. looks so much amend, or even any of the older Scooby Doo shows especially the What's New Scooby Doo series. A smashing modern take (virtually two decades quondam) on the original serial). The overall plot isn't bad if y'all can get over the animation style.

Worst Scooby-Doo reincarnation e'er!!

I am and so sick and tired of this ridiculous Scooby-Doo nonsense that Warner Bros. is milking off. They already got lucky with Wabbit, Mike Tyson Mysteries, and a few others, but giving out THIS??!!! This is merely messed up. The animation is then horrible, the characters are still detest-able equally they used to be, the story is but the same thing over and over again, and the humor makes no sense. Why the hell would Cartoon Network continue airing Scooby-Doo?? Information technology's and then unfair!! I mean, Scooby- Doo! Mystery Incorporated was already the worst enough, but this is even worse!! Not even Shaggy and Scooby-Doo Get a Clue (even that show also sucked) looked as bad equally this. Scooby-Doo needs to die. Even modern SpongeBob doesn't look as bad as this!! WHAT IS It WITH THESE RIDICULOUS SCOOBY-DOO SHOWS??!! Unacceptable. Bottom line, this show sucks.

Best scooby doo serial

Not bad animation. Love scooby's zingers. Daphne is normal, is not standing in that weird pose with weird shoes. Wears sneakers and acts like a teen, not a vamp. So many phrases and comment addresses to adults not kids.

Not the best incarnation, just even so a very fun show

"Be Cool, Scooby Doo" is a very informal fun show for kids to enjoy, What I liked was that this series still managed to go on some of the heart of the other shows while still providing some new things. The one-act besides isn't too bad, and I did laugh a few times. Theres some cool things they exercise, and they endeavor to incorporate some facts about certain mysteries which I think is very absurd. Now there are a few issues mainly the character blueprint. I don't hate the design, but it decently feels a little cheaper than some other shows of this franchise. Some of the characters at time can be a picayune annoying, just non too much. Overall this bear witness has some iffy charter designs, and some jokes don't land, but it'southward far from bad. It's fun, fast paced, and the mysteries are still very fun to picket.

Well-nigh creative scooby doo ever!!! The sense of humor, mode and personalities of the characters. The villains were honestly scary specially in season two making information technology even better. Really hoping maybe another season will be fabricated. I know it has been cancelled because they acted too soon waiting for the skilful reviews. Flawed, Just Still Good

People were admittedly skeptical about this bear witness because of the artwork and the promos, and while the bear witness has faults, I think it's genuinely skilful. This show is about the gang (Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby) going on a road trip together when school is over. They encounter lots of monsters and ghosts, and accept to figure out who'due south backside it. There's never been a Scooby Doo series I don't like, and this evidence is no exception. While the humor tin can be perfected a bit, each episode has me laughing a lot. The gang is still themselves though. Yes, Daphne is a bit dumbed down, but she's all the same funny and helpful, and her gimmicks don't overstay their welcome. The show has a nice Phineas And Ferb vibe to information technology, though that might be due to Jon Colton Barry and Zac Moncrief. If y'all look past the weird art, I say requite it a shot.

Aweful

This has to exist one of the ugliest, about garbage serial that has ever been put out by this franchise. I'm all for trying to make the franchise more interesting, particularly considering that the Scooby Doo franchise has always gotten grief for beingness too dried and repetative, but there'due south no excuse for making these characters so incredibly stupid and irritating. It's as if the character'southward sanity levels have plummeted to zero. Add to that, their hideous character pattern, and you have a truthful disaster of a serial. They look like knockoffs that came out of Family unit Guy. The animation quality is beyond horrible as well. It's altogether simply bad and cheep looking. Sometimes, information technology's better to exit well enough alone and non try to force something into an uncomfortable place just because you tin. I think that Daphne and Velma have suffered the virtually. Daphne is practically certifiably insane, and Velma has had all her intellect stolen from her and replaced with paranoia and skepticism of the nigh extreme kind. And, while it's true that the series don't always line up with what is considered canon and what isn't, this serial seems to outright contradict other series completely. For example, making Velma afraid of the water or incapable of scuba diving when multiple series before this i has portrayed her as a very capable and confident swimmer and scuba diver. It may be for comedic relief, only comedy can exist done well without beingness downright stupid. This comedy isn't smart. It lacks annihilation that makes you want to render to information technology. This franchise has had meliorate comedic writing. There'due south no reason non to tap into that.

Finally! An interesting reboot out of so many!

Went to my local Barnes and Nobles store to await for childhood cartoons that I can agree on to and ended upward buying this DVD with some others because I wanted to give something modern a endeavor. The art style made me feel similar this was going to exist another forced Scooby- Doo project since Warner Bros. have been overdoing Scooby-Doo since the DC'southward New 52 started. The art is lazy and I believe DC and Cartoon Network are getting lazier as time moves on. I hateful look at horrific Teen Titans Go drawing. But I was hoping this DVD wasn't a waste matter of time and coin.

Now, the show as a whole. Human, I take to consume my words for a moment and say that this is pretty comical! The fine art for some reason really does fit the goofiness of it! I was surprised by how much I'd laughed while watching the gang slip up from one gag to another in but seconds! Fast-paced and unusual! Daphne who was once my least favorite grapheme suddenly became my nigh favorite character! She isn't like she was in her previous incarnations just rather a fun, adventurous, goofy type and I'd thought Shaggy and Scooby were the best of the gang!

Episode 1: Decent Episode 2: Pretty Skillful Episode iii: GREAT!! This is where I was laughing the near!

My suggestion is to spotter episode three! That one is my favorite and so far!

Is this the only animation way anyone knows how to exercise anymore?

End killing inventiveness with this cookie cutter animation style that isnt even good. Id be more willing to go into these kinds of shows if the style that they rest on like a crutch was actually non so ugly and lazy looking, but we live in the era of stupid and beingness content with little to no effort, and children are unfairly used every bit the excuse.
