Materials:
Yarn: J. & P. Coats Speed-Cro-Sheen, Art. C45 100-yd/91-m ball size-3 cotton crochet thread: 2 balls Ecru.
Crochet hook: Size G/6 (4 mm) or size that gives you the correct gauge. Tapestry needle.
Leather: Two 8 1/2" x 11" brown suede trim pieces #4040-03 (available in crafts stores such as Michael's, A. C. Moore and Wal-Mart or call the Leather Factory at 800-433-3201); tracing paper; cardstock for templates; small hole punch; sharp shears; transfer paper; fine-point marker or air-soluble pen. Optional: Leather mini punch size 5 (11/64"/5 mm), rawhide mallet, scrap board.
Gauge: 9 sc and 9 rnds = 2"

Shoulder Bag Template
TEMPLATES: Enlarge front/back pattern(yellow) and flap pattern (blue), below, 400% on a photocopier. Transfer one flap and front/back piece to cardboard, including each hole. Cut out; punch holes. With leather right side up, trace flap and front on one piece and back on the other. Outline shapes and dot holes with fine-point marker or air-soluble pen. Cut out. Place leather on board and tap mini-punch sharply with mallet to make holes, or use handheld hole punch.

Instructions:

FRONT
Right side facing you, join crochet thread in first hole at upper righthand corner of leather front piece.
Rnd 1 (right side): 3 sc in same hole as joining, 2 sc each in next 19 holes on straight edge, 3 sc in hole at corner, 2 sc in each hole on curved edge; join with sl st in first sc. Note: All rnds are worked from right side.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same sc as joining; 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 40 sc, 3 sc in center sc at corner, sc in each sc on curve; join.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in same sc as joining and in next 2 sc; ch 100 for strap, sk 42 sc on straight edge, sc in next sc and each sc around; join.
Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in same sc as joining and in next 2 sc, sc in each ch of strap and each sc around; join.
Rnds 5–11: Ch 1, sc in each sc on strap and bag; join. Fasten off.

BACK
On leather back piece, work Rnds 1 and 2 as for front piece. Fasten off.

Joining: Right sides together, line up 3rd sc on last row of front with center sc of 3-sc corner on back. With crochet thread in tapestry needle, whipstitch through both lps of matching scs to join curved edges; end in center sc of 3-sc corner. Fasten off. Turn right side out.

FLAP
Right side facing you, join crochet thread in right-hand corner of leather flap piece.
Rnd 1: 3 sc in same hole as joining, 2 sc each in next 17 holes on straight edge, 3 sc in hole at corner, 2 sc each in hole on curved edge; join.
Rnd 2: Sc in same st as joining, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 36 sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in each sc on curve; join.
Rnd 3: Sc in same st as joining, sc in next 43 sc. Fasten off, leaving 20" end for sewing.

Joining: Right sides together, flap in front, line up last st of flap and first free sc at top of back; whipstitch through scs across to end of flap. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
